I scalped someone on a climb last night, he was struggling big time and I strolled past at 13mph and said evening mate without panting. He then proceeded to pedal harder but to no avail, I was too fast for him.

I got overtaken on a hill during an Audax yesterday with a 'Well done - your doing very well' in quiet a genteel, reedy voice. It was a lady who looked well into her sixties, with a hearing aid. I let out an involuntary strange laugh and said 'thanks!' And immediately hoped she didn't think I was laughing at her - it just struck me as comical!

I get overtaken everytime I go out. Just about everyone can go past me, but I don't care. I have neither the bike nor the fitness level to ride at high speed so anyone who takes satisfaction from my scalp isn't aiming very high.

I did overtake a guy the other morning on a long climb. He had a rusty mountain bike that sounded like a tin of nails with maladjusted gears, and he was wearing rigger boots and carying a tool bag on his handlebars. I thought he did well to get up the hill at all.
