Overtaking stopped buses

I would filter on the outside and wait behind the car first in the queue behind the bus as you suggest that way you don`t get caught half way. I never filter on the inside unless using a cycle lane it`s asking to get trapped by a sudden left turn or hit by a sudden passenger door opening.

Thats what I thought when I first read it Tyke.

"I can quite happily filter up the Inside or outside of the bus"

Is that right?

I prefer to filter down the outside, as drivers are more likely to be checking their offside mirrors than their nearside mirrors, as that is where motorbikes/scooters/mopeds will be.
I will be keeping an eye on the car before the bus and the bus and making decisions about whether to proceed based on that car behind the bus and the oncoming traffic.

Not sure what you could have done further, and it sounds like it was a good job you had squeaky brakes, I wonder if they would have seen a motorbike/scooter/moped?

Why would you want to filter on the inside of a bus. In the OP the bus is stopped so probably passengers getting on/off if it was moving it would be likely to pull in and squash you.
The point about waiting behind the first car was that you don`t have the OP`s situation of a car trying to overtake the bus without seeing you.

Hi Tyke, Sorry my question was probably a bit unclear. In the specific instance the traffic in the road tends to sit towards the middle and filtering up the left if there are no HGVs is easier than filtering on the outside where the space is narrower and there are adjoining roads on the right. So I sometimes filter up the inside of traffic to the bus. I do not undertake the bus at the bus stop.

Not a chance he would have seen them. I was slowly going up the inside and was trying to see if he was looking in his side mirror. It appeared he didn't.

Although motorcyclists have the advantage that they can rev their engine as they pass which seems quite effective at getting attention

I was going to unsqueaky (?!) my brakes but on several occasions they have been very good at attracting a driver's attention and it isn't as aggressive as shouting Oi or having an airzound. It is only the front and only when I press lightly so I can almost generate the noise at will!

You know the road and if you think its Ok then that`s fine and I was agreeing with your option to stop behind the first car, that`s how I do it as well.

The post about undertaking the bus was not aimed at you I realize you meant staying behind the bus. It was in answer to steveindenmark`s post.

You sound like your very aware of surrounding traffic and doing the right thing. I just don`t like being on the inside.
