Tried it many years ago - might have come on though by now...Hated the stuff, made perfectly good tyres feel like carp - adds weight, may stop the odd puncture, but buggers up the performance of the tyre.

OK if you are commuting, but don't fit to quality fast tyres .....

If you are worried about punctures then just get a decent tyre. Schwalbe marathon plus's are an ideal commute tyre

it works but the main problem is it won't stick to a lot of tyres.
the better road tyres are made from rubber compounds that have a very greasy (not literally) surface on the inside. getting the tape to stay put while you fit the tyre is near impossible and most likely the tape will shift and end up being in the wroong place to do any good.

best thing is do go with a p-resistant (to a point) tyre. Shwalbe Ultremo are great but not cheap

I tried it when I was getting almost daily punct**** from thorns after the hedges on the way to work had been clipped. It would not stay in position and was useless. Get some tough tyres instead e.g. Schwalbe Marathons
