The brake pads on my BB7 disc brakes need replacing. There's a long wait at my LBS plus £35 charge so was was wondering if it is possible for me to do it without risking damaging or screwing it up? ie is it hard/technical?
Advice appreciated.

It's very simple on my bike. Takes 5 minutes. Unless your bike is somehow different I would do it myself. It's even easier than doing rim brakes.

£35 to replace brake pads? Is your LBS Bespoke Cycling? Although I doubt even they'd charge that? Is that a full strip down brake service maybe?

Maybe go somewhere else if not confident to do (aren't you in London with numerous bike shops?)

It's a very simple job. Are you able to get them out to check for wear? If so then you can replace easily. Youi tube it if you want some pointers.

£35 quote was for pads (£15 front and rear) plus £20 labour. With LBS's 'recommended' pads it was £40 all in.
Hence my question about doing it myself.

Will give it a go tomorrow.
Thanks everyone.

Very easy to do. As someone else has mentioned, You Tube is your friend. Just search for Avid BB7 pad replacement. For new pads. Discobrakes.

Easy job - hard to get wrong and no specialist tools required. Just an Allen Key and possibly a pair of pliers.
Having said that, we often forget that cycle shops have overheads and have to try and earn a living too. By the time the shop owner has paid the wholesale price for the pads, a % of the overheads etc. they definitely won't be making themselves rich.
