We were talking about communication the other day and smoke signals and fire beacons came into the equation. If you wanted to CC or BC someone it could get quite complicated, I reckon lighting a fire in their front garden for CC and chucking a Molotov cocktail through their back window for BC.

AFAIK colours are only used to distinguish if they are at sea (red and yellow) or on land (blue and white). Mind you, you should be able to notice the difference between the sea and land, I'd have thought.
