Painted rims & braking

I've just ordered this

Was on offer for £100 this morning, yes it's cheap & wont be top quality, but wanted something to use in the wet & and on some trails while my beloved Triban 3 stays in the garage clean & dry Hopefully should also be an improvement from my old steel MTB with off road tyres. An aluminium frame & Shimano EZ-Fire shifters cant be too bad for the money.
The main thing that I'm bothered about is the painted rims. I've heard they're not ideal in the wet. Is there any pads that could improve on this? I've got swissstop greens on the triban and they're great, but not sure if they'd work with painted rims, and would prefer something cheaper being a low end budget bike, maybe salmons?

Says in one on the reviews, and if you zoom in you can see the rims are white. Good question, why do that? To look cool? Even some expensive bikes have painted rims

A guy I work with has a Raleigh Airlite something or other, and that had white painted rims.

Let's just say his stopping abilities, particularly in the wet were interesting

He's cleaned the paint off the rims now to try and ensure he doesn't die quite so soon!

Think I'd have a go at masking off the rim then taking some sand paper to the braking surface in order to remove the paint! Just make sure you thoroughly clean them afterwards to remove any grit/sand paper remnants.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll see how they are first. The annoying thing is my MTB is useless braking in the wet as well, the triban is great in the wet, but that's the bike I want to keep dry!

That Fuji track bike has no brakes so paint on the rims won't be a problem anyway .

Doh, good point lol! I have seen other examples though, stupid idea!

Good point, but I've already had rusty bearings, changed and regreased & we'll see how we go. Freehub has now gone, decathlon replacing wheel under warranty, but it always seemed to get worse after a ride in the wet. I'm not adverse to greasing and changing bearings, but don't fancy stripping down freehubs. And the slightist bit of mud gets caught in the cruds.
