Shock horror:eek:, you don't have any spare bikes?

Let the undercoat continue to dry and in the morning, perhaps cover with cling film or tin foil. If you paint it you are screwed as it will not dry in time, so you will have to restart the job. Covering it might protect it so it can be painted. Don't see what you have to lose.

never heard the expression "Invited Paint" ?
but basically you are saying make sure it is fully dried first ? (i sort of think you're right, but it would be nice just to get it finished)
Sorry, predictive text. Uncured, was the word I wanted.
The hammerite top coat would dry quick, esp in the warm house. If I get that on before 1am, it will be fine the morrow. if it is touch dry at 11 I will paint it before bed at 12:30
And what happened? Success or start all over again?
at 11 pm it wasnt quite dry so alarm was set to 4am, and bike left in a warm room with a hot light bulb just under the BB. by 4:30 am it had coat of Hammerite on (it dries quick) and I was back off to bed, up again 9am (I'm a big sleeper) Breakfast then put it all back together, BB, Cranks etc. was on the road by just after eleven.

It was by no means a cosmetic job, the way I clean it with a cloth means I eventually wear the paint off round the BB, and the tyre I use is too big for the frame (4mm clearance each side) so the paint always goes there too, bare metal was starting to show!, have done a lot of winter miles this year. so all I'm really after is a good thick coat of paint, couldn't care less what it looks like.

I won't get any awards for neatness, and that shade of blue is just hideous, but the rust is kept at bay for another season - bikes doing OK for 80k miles
seriously though that rear tyre has done well, marathon plus, approaching 9000 mile and still got plenty to go, (3 punctures in that time and none needed changed on the road) The current armadillo on the front is pretty much finished after 3.5k
I've got some old Marathon tyres on the Ridgeback (the original Kevlar ones) and they've done 20,000 miles at least (including a thousand or more 'touring') the rear looks like yours but the front looks almost new still. Tough tyres. :becool:
