I use the parktool cyclone chain cleaner which I think is very good but an now running out of the citrus chainbrite fluid supplied with it which is quite expensive.
I was thinking of just using washing up liquid and warm water..Would it achieve the same results or is there another cheap alternative.
Thanks

I'm not sure washing up liquid would be suitable for a chain bath, it contains salt I think ? When I used to use a chain bath I used various debreasers I think stuff like Muc Off was the cheapest. I've ditched the chain baths however and now use baby wipes.

Ah forgot about baby wipes, there used to clean everything else. Will try them on the chain

Every now and then (2-3 years) I take the chain off and put it in a bowl of diesel or petrol to clean it.

Otherwise, if you do it regularly enough, baby wipes, as HLaB says, is a good solution. And use an old toothbrush to get into the awkward bits.

I can't be arsed to stick to his method, I just clean it more often + use pipe cleaners to get between the links.

Most importantly I stopped using wet lube-ugggh

I use Swarfega Oil and Grease remover in my chain cleaner, you just hose down with water, brilliant stuff.

+1, used with alloy wheel brush, spin the chain pressing the brush against the chain, rinse with warm water, job done.

Park Tool Chain dirt redistributor more like.
Hear hear. Bought one, was very good at pulling the chain off and filling up with sludge but not apparently getting the chain clean. I stick to manual methods these days (not Mickle's, I use Fenwicks degreaser)- more effective and less bother.
