I’ve got a sore finger - it’s the ring finger on my right hand. I’ve had a sore, dry and lumpy bit of skin on either side of my nail for probably 3 or 4 years. Been to the doctors’ surgery and I’ve variously been told that it’s a whitlow or a paronychia (for God’s sake, do not Google unless you have a strong constitution!) but the only recommendations I’ve had are to keep it clean, and smear on fusidic acid. Mine isn’t half as gory as what Dr Google finds, but it’s not nice to have.

It gets especially sore when it’s been wet and the skin has softened.

Anyone else afflicted? If so, have you had any success getting it to go away?

Ask for a swab investigation and you may find you need antibiotics such as doxycycline or penicillin as it’s a fungal infection resistant to fusidic acid?
