Thinking about Pashley princesses, as I was earlier, I was reminded of a girl I saw today cycling through Herne Hill in South London. Pashley princess, very upright, very regal, Very "I have every right to be here, so do not commit any underhand rudeness, you squalid little motorist" in attitude.

It worked. She commanded the road, in "primary position". Much more effectively than any road bike I have seen.

I liked it.

Pile of over priced poop............

As you describe the rider....be under a truck shortly....SORRY.... don't mess with traffic unless you have the knowledge and speed......

Pashley's shouldn't be anywhere near traffic...... don't perform.... OK for a pootle, not for commuting, especially in London....

Why not use a bike like that in London?

I used to commute on a Dutch upright in York, weight 18kg. It was very effective and totally weatherproof. Must admit I preferred the tourer.

A friend uses her Pashley Poppy to commute on (towpath and road) and she's never had a problem. Handled properly it goes at a decent speed and I've witnessed that she does get treated more considerately by drivers on it.

A lot of women's step-throughs are hideously heavy (my mum's generic one must weigh at least three times my Sirrus) so the Pashley's not actually that different.

i wouldn't want to hit a Pashley. probably write my car off, leaving the bike in pristine condition
