Wow. Things have moved on since I became acquainted with teraflops and that was scary enough.

Three orders of magnitude faster.....

Still not faster than the speed of my wife's cerebral processing and recall of my list of sins committed during the twenty seven years of our relationship.

Googol was the first such word of incomprehensible size that I encountered - I think it was in the 'How and Why Book of Mathematics' when I was about 9 or 10. Mindboggling, and looks even more impressive when you see it written down.

Then I learned of a googolplex - 10 to the power of one googol.

Doesn't slip into my everyday conversations very often though, unsurprisingly.

That's nothing. I chose 6 numbers for the lottery like you're supposed to in order to win the jackpot and the stupid ball machine went and selected the wrong ones!
