I've got an Alpkit Gamma and think that it's really good. Very bright, lots of different functions and good battery life.

Alpkit's service is fantastic. Not tried their headtorches, but had other things from them and they are 5*.

Shame that Gamma torch doesn't work with rechargeables.

Mrs PP has the Tikka Plus and likes it. Not tried the XP yet.

I've been using a gamma with rechargeables for over a year and have had no problems. The alpkit website recommends against using lithium batteries, but there is no mention of not using rechargeables.

You can't use (or rather are not recomended to use) lithium batteries with Petzl head torches either. Something to do with them not having voltage regulators I believe.

If you click on the reviews on the Gamma headtorch page you'll see several reports that rechargeables don't work, and some comments from Gamma. It seems to depend on what voltage the batteries put out.

I hadn't seen the reviews. I've been using it with Uniross Hybrios which are hybrid rechargables and it works fine. I must admit that I haven't used it with standard rechargables. However, for the money it is an amazing headtorch - highly recommeded.
