I would be tempted to change the bulbs in both headlights at the same time.

Slip it in a local garage and let them do it, if you do decide on diy do not touch the bulbs with your bare fingers.

You should be able to find cheaper than halfrauds.

If its halogen, don't toutch the bulb with your fingers as the grease from your hand can cause hotspots and could cause the new bulb to fail. I don't like Halfrauds but for car bulb replacement its usually free fitting if you buy the bulb from them.

Did one last week in wifeys 307.

It is a small halogen bulb. It is not a common size so you need to sort out the right one. Buy a spare too!
Dipped beam is the light behind the glass ball type light.
In the engine area there is a round access hole, like a big lid on a jar.
Electric connection just pulls off.
There is a sprung bit of wire (fat paperclip wire) that holds the bulb in and then hooks over an edge, this needs to be unhooked and springs back, with bulb then coming out.
Bulb sits in plane and wire clip holds it in. As above - don't touch the glass of the bulb.

I think Halfords will do the fitting too for £5 if you are not confident.
What should be the going rate?
I would have thought a fiver in the sky rocket would be the going rate + the bulb costs.

...course the fitter won't be that bothered about touching the bulb... if it goes early he gets to sell another one...

I know plenty of techs, who do a good job and are not what you seem to think.

Now architects what a robbing bunch of people they all are. Over priced etc.

Just FYI bulb fitting at Halfords is £6.99 for a headlight and the bulbs cost £7.99 - £9.99 for a standard single bulb.
Garages often charge more as they charge for a min hour's labour.

The local garage lads are good here too Screenman, but having taken a VW in to the main dealer to have it's passenger side's seat belt replaced under warranty after it had been on order for a week and collected it to find they'd replaced the driver's side one which worked fine ... you're right though you can get ripped off everywhere you go... ... and you weren't too impressed with car body repairers a few months ago.

I had a Citroen BX a long time ago.... changing the headlight bulbs on that was fun- the easiest was a Ford Escort. Hardest was a Volvo.

It is just that after many years in the trade I have found that for every shyster there are 10 good guys.
