photo manipulation help wanted

I managed to get a photo of my favourite rider tommy voecler just past the finish line yesterday taken on my phone , when i printed it off it looks way too dark.
now me being a complete luddite and techno phobe was hoping if anyone who dabbles with photography, such as @ColinJ or @coffeejo could do anything with the image to (A), crop it down a bit and (B), somehow make it lighter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated 20160501_162659.jpg

I'd transfer it to a PC and use something like Irfanview (free) to smarten it up

A very quick fiddle on my phone as I'm off out (Android app PicSay ( Pro= paid for version)

Is a better version of this the sort of thing you're after? Cropped, reduced the exposure a tad, made the whole image a shade warmer and sharpened it to reduce some of the fuzziness.

It's a very small pic to begin with if the uploaded one is as big as it gets - I suspect not & this sites limits have kicked in

i honestly wouldnt know where to start doing anything like that, i already have it on my pc. i will take a look at Irfanview and gimp, thank you
Irfanview is more limited than Gimp or a similar desktop free photoshop-a-like 'Paint' and is less novice friendly.

Gimp is v good but takes forever to fire up.

You could try with the native windows image tools, they're OK for quick and relatively easy tweaks.

Is this any better?
