It's actually a tortoise rather than a turtle. I found it, and many of its friends and rellies in Turkey, March 2006.
They came out of hibernation just in time for the total solar eclipse.

There were loads where I was - Adrasan, not that far from Antalya. Although it seemed far when I was getting a 0700 flight to come home.
