I'm a bit lost looking for a pistol grip tripod!

You can get ones for £9 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polaroid-Pistol-Grip-Tabletop-Tripod/dp/B004GYZ4L6

All the way up to £150! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vanguard-GH-200-Pistolengriff-Kugelkopf/dp/B007BKEQ6G

This thing looks quite good too http://www.pinnaclemicrogb.co.uk/newcart/search.php?cc=GBP&g=AF10926&m=BARSKA

Are these types of tripods any good? Can anyone recommend a particular one? I'm wanting one for my Contour Roam 2 because the camera is quite awkward to hold by itself.

Never quite worked these out.
If it is simply a case of holding, then fine, bit otherwise...

How does adding extra weight reduce the inherent shake in arm and wrist when using a camera?

Using your second hand to brace would be a far cheaper and easier option

The pistol grip isn't really to reduce shake, it's just so I have a way to hold the camera. The Contour Roam 2 isn't really designed to be handheld so there isn't any comfortable way to hold it, I've got a regular tripod for still shots but I'm looking for something handheld.

I'm currently spending a small fortune on photography, aiming to turn myself from a snapper into an amateur photographer. So I've been looking at different types of support. I have an old tripod (1970s or 80s vintage.) and a new hide clamp (For birdwatching with my Spotting Scope.) which both work with a camera having 3 way heads. I bought a monopod which is OK with zoom up to around a 150 lens but iffy with a 600 lens. I also have trouble getting precision using the 3 way heads with the long lens, so I ordered geared head for use with the long lens. To me the pistol grip lacks precision with a heavy camera but that may be more to do with my aged hands than any fault with the idea.

I made a brass eye-bolt that screws in the base thread. Attach a piece of para-cord and stand on it. Camera shake eliminated.

The camera that I plan to use on it only weighs 150g so not heavy at all.
