What would you say the waterproofing element is like ?

Don't forget there is a big hole in the top where your leg is. If I'm MTB'ing in dreadful conditions, I pop on a dry suit cuff - you can actually get rubber cuffs for winter boots these days - they help keep the wet out.

I have the Shimano Boots and have don't for about 5 years.

The big hole at the top where your leg goes in is the weak spot and always will be. Weirdly the Shimano Boots have ventilation holes that I quickly filled with wax (leder gris).

I wear them usually in the cold wet with long bibs or tights. it seems if I make sure the tights material is over the top of the boot cuff my feet stay dryer, or dry for longer.

Had my PX winter boots on yesterday.

Unfortunately I had to ride through floods but luckily it wasn't past the top of the boot on the way out so my feet were dry at the café.

On the way back though the water had risen and it was over the top of the boot - it was getting hard to pedal there was so much depth of water. Luckily I had put gators on which kept most of the water out.

They're light years better than the normal shoes and overshoes.

Are these the new PX boots - Carnac Burra ?

Disclaimer: I've never used PX winter boots. I have a pair of Northwave Celsius boots that I think are great. I also ride with Bridgedale waterproof socks. With that disclaimer out of the way ...

My feet get wet. It's going to happen. If I ride for hours in the pouring rain, with my feet directly in the spray from the road I'm going to need a miracle to have dry feet at the end. Now, they may not be cold. The insulation may keep my feet from freezing but being on the end of a cyclist's leg in the pouring rain and constant spray is about the most challenging thing footwear can face. Damp is about the best I can expect to find when I take my boots and socks off at the end of a wet ride.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my boot/sock choice is flawed and other people do in fact have dry feet.

A few days ago I bought the MTB version.. They were delivered on Wednesday. Size 46. Normally I take a 45, 10½ in old money. Well they weren't kidding with the warning on their website about them being narrow fitting, so order a size up. I did that, and could just about squeeze into them. But far too snug, and as a sufferer of ingrown toenails I am wary of overly tight footwear. So they are being returned!
I have now ordered a size 47, which is the biggest size they stock, so we shall see. The plus of all this is that the price had dropped £20 from £100 to £80 since Monday, so I saved a few bob. As long as the returns system works as it should.
I am hoping these boots will encourage me to get out a bit more over the winter in my new restricted version of cycling (medical problems have put hills and general exertion out of bounds meantime, so it's an e-bike on the flattish routes for now).
