...I've got two little research projects relating to cycling and thought I'd share them.

The first is a copy of the idea where overtaking distance is measured. So every time a motorvehicle overtakes a cyclist (will prolly be me, but might rope a couple of mates in) I will use some tech to measure the distance of said vehicle. I thought something like a lazer-measure with a Muvi-clone on the dial and over the back to show vehicle approach might work.

Need to figure out how exactly to measure distances without being disrupting to other's attention or safety.

The second bit of research I'd like to do is a simple head count of cyclists in the area.

Oh and I'd like to set up a comprehensive survey on transport. I know some websites allow you to create free poll surveys. Anyone know anything about this, how decent is the free service etc?

I'm doing something for my MSc dissertation try googling Parkin 'The Effect of Cycle Lanes on the proximity between motor traffic and cycle traffic' He tells you his method, done with a POV cam; there other similar research but they do it with a costly ultrasonic device, hidden my panniers.

Edit folk use survey monkey all the time for their projects so it must be OK

Ahh cool! I will look that up today. This is something I've been dying to do to satisfy my own curiousity, so its not for anything official or public body.

I'll go back to survey monkey later. Found the layout confusing last time I tried it.
