I'm fitting Continental Spike Claw studded tyres to the MTB tonight, so keep praying for more snow and very low temperatures. Its looking good for the North East for the next week - by good I mean more of the same.
Will let you all know how I get on, if they have any Internets in casualty:biggrin:

They look good, thought they were expensive at first but i guess they will last for years.

Good luck and let us know how you get on with them !

Not to sure?
I ordered a pair yesterday actually, can't wait.

That said, and as I said in another thread, I was truly amazed at how much grip my Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph MTB tyres gave me yesterday.

Picked my Schwalbe Snow Studs up last night - brill commute this morning (less studs than the Contis') but suitable for off road, and tarmac.

I'd have never thought how good studded tyres were, until this morning.

Ive just been out for an hour and a half and the tyres were excellent (So was laughing at a c@ck in a big Audi wheelspinning like crazy but going nowhere). They coped with everything, although the deep rutted frozen slush (its well sub-zero) was a bit entertaining.

I've been riding in with a single Schwalbe Snow Stud upfront (I had a spare front wheel, but not a rear). Seems good so far, lots of compressed snow this morning, haven't tried shiny ice yet.

Where'd you get them??

Wiggle - looked on Monday, 10 tyres.....looked a bit later, 6 and by the time I checked out, I got the last two......

Glad I did......

Impressions so far - fantastic traction on ice, compacted snow, and frosted road surfaces. Certainly easier riding than walking.

Standard MTB tyres are very good on compacted snow, although not the polished stuff....

I'm staying off the roads - too much frozen loose mushy stuff.

Question: why did you go for the "snow studs" as oppose to the "marathon winters?"

I went for the winters. Am just curious.

They are for my MTB.... so multi use..ie - if ICY I am not riding on the roads near me....so need off road capability (keeps the missus happy) - Trans Pennine Trail just happens to go from home to work.....;) with minimal road use......

My main commuter is a fixed road bike.. so to keep commuting, having seen the forecast, went for the Snow Studs... I don't have a hybrid... (2 road bikes, a road fixed, and an MTB.....)

For everything else other than snow/Ice it's the Fixed on Conti GP 4 Seasons at 220g...bomb proof...........

Can you tell me where I can get the 26" winter ones... I umm'd and ahh'd and finally made my mind up and now they are out of stock. Can't even find them on the Bike24 website. Trying to decide whether to go for something else now or wait till the snow melts and the Winter tyres come back in stock.
