The heel has started to come away on my current pair of road shoes and I've been on the hunt for a new pair.

Narrowed it down to two:

which I can get off Chain Reaction for pretty much the same price.

I prefer the look of the Mavics, slightly, but I like the ratchet system on the Polaris shoes so I'm leaning towards them currently.

Which would you go for? Or can you recommend anything else at around the same price point?

Specialized BG Elite and Spiuk ZS11 are also worth a look for that price range - both are good value. Lots of other shoes at that price point from the likes of Northwave, Shimano, DMT, Lake and others...

no worries - the Spiuk stuff is good quality. I have one of their lids, and also a pair of the ZS11 MTB shoes and am happy with both. I would guess the upper of the ZS11 road shoe is the same anyway....

Cool, I'm glad I asked: cheers for the recommendation. The Spiuk looks a bit more like a 'proper' road shoe than the Polaris and Mavic options. And for a reasonable price as well. I'd love to have the budget to spend over £200 on a pair of shoes!

I have the Mavic peletons. Can't compare to any others as they sre my first. Very comfortable and no issues even after a couple of hours riding

Thanks again for the Spiuk shout b'n'y. They arrived yesterday and got their first use this morning. Very light and very comfortable. Also a huge improvement over the shoes I was using previously.

Nice touch that they come with a winter and summer insole. Am I right in thinking that the only difference is insulation? That's all I could see anyway!

glad you like em..

I got two sets of insoles with my MTB shoes - as far as I can tell, the summer pair appears to allow a bit more air flow under the foot, although I'm not sure how effective it is. Nice to have a spare set though.. ;)

What colour did you go for?

Black with white straps. Matches the bikes they will be used on, and won't be as much of a nightmare to keep clean!
