Just had a phone call from the local Plod.
Seems they've raided a house today and recovered at least some of the bikes that were nicked from my shed. Sounds like the best bikes haven't turned up, but some of the others are pretty distinctive.

I have to go and formally identify the bikes this evening, although I guess they now belong to the insurance company as we've just spent all the payout on new bikes

Still, well done Plod, and it would be a terrible, terrible shame if the thieving bastards just happened to fall down a set of stairs at the nick... several times.

Sadly the overall score is more like

Police 473 Thieving Scum 579,578

Glad you're standibg a chance of getting some back.

Great news!
As you say, technically the bikes now belong to your insurance company, but they will almost certainly let you buy them back (should you want them / assuming they haven't been wrecked) at a reasonable price - after all, how much is it going to cost them in time, effort and money to collect 'their' bikes from the police station and sell them on..?

Yep, well done Police.
Now if only the courts were to hand out a sentence that would deter any future bike thefts.... However I never fail to be disappointed when they think a £100 fine will stop them stealing thousands of pounds worth of bikes.

I remember the story of a similar raid

Apparently the thief's faced dropped when it was pointed out that two of the bikes belonged to their Inspector

Don't forget the victim surcharge and court charge of around £150.

They'll have to go and steal some more bikes to sell and pay off the fine.

Did the thieving scumbags live local to you then @Kestevan?

Glad you got the new bikes as well but as others have said, the insurance co might let you buy back the old ones. If any are special to you or difficult to replace, might be worth asking?

Just got back from the copshop. The 2 best bikes have not been recovered, but the majority of the rest have been found, as have some of the spares, wheels etc. None of my tools though.

Looks like they found a house full of bikes and assorted other ill gotten gains.

Ive made a statement and will just have to see what happens. Sounds like they're trying to pin housebreaking on the scumbag rather than simply handling stolen goods, so might be a while before anything happens.

As to the insurance co, I spoke to them and they have accepted a nominal payment of £100 for title to the recovred goods.

As we've already replaced most of the bikes I think we will likely donate some of the recovered bikes ( specifically the kids bikes) to the club for use by others who are in need of loan bikes etc.
