Polite & swift apology..

I had a constructive discussion this morning. Riding along a busy fast b-road many cars overtook me safely, but a red BMW passed me very close. At the lights ahead I caught up & the chap was on the phone. He may have had an earpiece in but he was fiddling away with the phone.

He wound down the window & I said that if he had not been on the phone he might have seen me earlier & left me more space, and that his pass had scared me, and was way closer than all the other cars who had passed me.

He immediately sincerely apologised and said sorry, and I thanked him for that.

Later on he passed me again - this time nice & wide, and the bike in front of me too. I gave him a wave of thanks.

Least he apologised to you and didn't just eff and blind instead.

Funny thing is, if he had actually knocked you off, the terms of his insurance would probably have forbidden him from apologising - bl**dy lawyers.

It was a close pass, not the closest but too close all the same. An apology was all I could reasonably ask for and it was offered immediately.

You're completely right. Sadly, the reason we praise this irresponsible driver is that 9/10 mobile phone using drivers would've told Arjimlad to f-off / get on the pavement / pay road tax...etc

Although some people are perfect, many of us get things wrong from time to time.

This chap seems to have accepted that he'd shown poor judgement and apologised.

That seems a pretty rare quality in this increasingly judgemental and litigious world.
