Pop up waste replacement

I'm going to be replacing a faulty pop up waste, now a quick look at the Screwfix website suggests that they're available in either slotted or unslotted, is there an easy way to tell what the faulty one is?

I know I could go to my local independent and ask but unfortunately the excellent one round the corner from me has closed, and the other one usually tries to turn everything into a Not the Nine O'clock News hi fi shop type situation.

A slotted waste deals with the overflow by piping the overflow water into the sink waste before it goes into the trap.

For added excitement, have a look at "banjo fittings". They go from the overflow hole to the slotted waste.

You may get a taste for this sort of reckless stuff.
