I am seriously thinking about getting the Cube Peloton Race bike. The 2014 edition is coming out in the
next few weeks and joy and behold, the frame will be blue, white and red: my national colours! So, that's another good reason for getting one.
Has anyone already has one and if so, what are your views on it? My present bike is a Specialized Allez.

At a pure guess, I would be inclined to say that both bikes are equivalent frame wise (a race geometry aluminium road bike with carbon forks) and that the price difference (if there is one) is due to the specification, i.e. the components, wheels, finishing kit.

I am not convinced that it is much of an upgrade really.

By an upgrade, do you mean all carbon frame? Not bothered about that.

No, I meant the frames are basically equivalent, having had a quick look now, my opinion remains the same. I am assuming there is a price difference between the bike you have and the bike you are looking at, that price difference is basically due to the groupset (which I am guessing is a higher level on the bike you are looking at, to the one you own) and the finishing kit. In fact, as Specialized are overpriced and Cube are IME modestly priced, the gap between the 2 bikes will be even narrower.

Ultimatelly, as an "upgrade", you are going to be looking at one of the very few truly special aluminium frames such as the Cannondales or the Canyon that people rave about, unless you go carbon. Else you are essentially just replacing an aluminium road frame with another. There will be some small differences but you are not going to get a massive performance benefit.

Now if you just wanted something with a different ride characteristic rather than a performance upgrade, it would be a different matter because you could look at different geometries in aluminium. You could look for something more relaxed if that suited you for example.

Thanks Rob for a very informative and unbiased advice. To be honest, I am not looking for something that will enhance my performance but just a second bike which will be somewhat different ( in looks) from my present one, hence the Cube.
