Postman is 63 today. What has been rattling around my head is that my dad was dead and buried at 62.Now i am not saying i am for the knackers yard yet.But it has got me thinking how young he was,he did seem ancient. But knowing how i feel today and how fit i am it seems so unfair that he went so early.
But he grew up in during the 20's and 30's.He was raised in South Yorkshire by his dad his mother having died when he was eight.
Life was hard and food was basic lots of fat and grease. His lifestyle brought on the heart attack.Hard work killed him,he worked for himself as a decorator,no six week holidays or sick pay for him.No duvet days either.
Seems so sad knowing that he was so young.
Anyway i am going to have a good day going out for a coffee and a bit of cake soon.
Great gifts series eleven of MASH and series 5 vol 1 and vol 2 of Allo allo,so lots of laughter to come during the next few months. And £25 from my in laws.I will waste this on cycling bits and bobs.^_^.
This is poignant and uplifting at the same time.
Thank you for sharing and have a great day!

That's just how I felt too... thanks Maz and Postie!

Hope you have a great day and can get out on your bike.

Happy Birthday Postie:thumbsup:
My dad died at 58 and I am now 55!!!!.
But I haven't been worked to an early grave by having had to work down the mines,in the steel works, shipbuilding or on the docks like their generation did.
Getting buried under a roof fall ten years previous to his death from kidney failure had a lot to answer for.
You look nowadays at blokes in their 70's even and they are generally, fitter and more aware of the world around them than any future generations.
Keep cycling, keep fit and damn the torpedoes! I hope I have at least another twenty years.
See you here mate 20 years to the day.

i think its the luck of the draw! my dad is 89 and had a physical job all his working life, things were hard for him as he came to England in 1963 with 4 kids and not a penny,he worked 6 days a week for most of his working life.but he managed to buy a modest house.never drank or smoked, and is still pretty fit and active.anyway Happy Birthday Postman !!

How many years to your mid life crisis Postie?

Not sure about that question,i was lucky RM started to drop a load of staff beginning in 2004.I was offered a great deal of money in 2006 and my pension,so i left it was a no brainer actually. So a lot of pressure was taken off.So i might have skipped the life crisis.Since 2006 loads have left all over the country.Gawd knows how they can afford it.All getting their pensions, and large lump sums.

63? How freakin' old is that!!!

At your age there are three things in life you needs low...

1 never just walk past a toilet
2 never waste a boner
3 never trust a fart

One of My fave lines from a movie - the bucket list

P.s. happy birthday ;)
