I had a couple of hours out on the mountain bike today. On part of the Meanwood Trail and into the late Lord Harewood's grounds. But during my journey home.I got a blowout. The beading of the tyre shredded.I was outside a house on Nursery Lane Leeds17.Plenty of tubes. But two were for my Dawes Galaxy and the one for the bike was a shraeder valve.Guess what it would not go through the hole in the rim.Out comes an old chap just about to cut his grass. He asks whats up.I explain.Next thing i know i am invited into his garden out comes his drill and he makes the hole a little bigger. He than gets out a pump fits it to his ciggie lighter in his car, turns on the engine and put put put tyre inflates.I am back home in less than ten mins. While all this is happening his wife has made me a warm drink.

Tomorrow i am going back with a card and a box of choccies. In our conversation he and his wife had been keen cyclists.Work that one out.Of all the houses to be outside it had to be a fellow cyclist.Brilliant.

Spot on. It's lovely when people take a little time to help you out.

And much I'm sure they will appreciate the "thank you" - I would bet a sizeable wager they won't have thought twice about helping you out - it'll have given them satisfaction to have been able to do something to get you out of a pickle, and they would find a gift of thanks most unexpected indeed (but good on you for wanting to show some appreciation)!!

Now where's that Big Grin smiley ...

My friend cycled from York to Orkney for one summer's digging. He arrived on Mainland Orkney via the ferry in the evening, and was standing at a farm gateway trying to decide what to do for camping accommodation that night, when a chap came out, and asked him how far he'd come etc. On hearing he was looking for a campsite, the chap said "Oh, come and pitch your tent in our barn - if you don't mind sharing it with some vintage tractors..." Needless to say, this was heaven to my friend! He ended up invited in for an evening of whisky, turned out the chap was also a cyclist in his past.

As well as the card & box of chocs you've also got to cut his grass!

It's not true what they say about the West Riding then?
