Due to an office change I commuted from SE London to Central London today for the first time in about 10 weeks.

Did I miss the news story that detailed when London's roads were attacked by an invading army and made unpassable due to pot holes.

They are as bad as I can remember them for years.

the roads are terrible round here there are craters all over the place. The council seem to be taking there time to repair them. I've had to true both my bikes in the last month because of it. Sometimes in rush hour you have no choice but to hit a few now and again. I think we should bill the council! They could at least fill them with gravel or something til they can repair them properly. Some of them are huge!

I had a pleasant surprise on way home last night, one particular road that has been pothole strewn for quite a while has been given some serious attention and all the holes/sunken drains etc have been filled in,good to see all that road tax we pay going to good use;)

Couple of my 'local' roads have seen attention - some great repairs, some shockers....

Although reccy'ing the Cheshire Cat circuit on Sunday, I found some shockers - gonna lose bikes down some of them....and I doubt they will get attention. Certainly going to be tricky in a grup to miss some of them.

I almost dissapeared down one...just missed it - 6 inches deep - clattered down it, and somehow came up the other side...just let the bike go loose...

I was travelling from Brixton to Waterloo yesterday and it was quite uncomfortable. I was on a bus.

I wouldn't consider taking my cheap wheels through there. There were more than enough potholes that were severe enough to break a rim or take a rider down and the bus lanes were either strewn with gravel or completely devoid of a top surface. In a couple of places the bus lane was separated from the other lanes by a deep crevice that ran for several yards down the road.

I've reported a half-mile stretch of road before but never an entire borough.

Yup there is some epic nasty ones between manchester museum and the precinct. Bus squeezed me into one not long ago, I thought I was going to total!

It's the winter weather. Kills roads, and this year it's been particularly bad. They are working on them, but it's bound to take a while to get them all. Just be careful out there.

Bad enough to throw you under a bus...... nearly came a cropper sprinting past Whitworth Hall a few months back - the bus ruts are horrendous...

That's a very positive attitude about them Pea. Although if roads where built with better surface materials we'd see less of them anyway but unfortunately everything is about costs these days.

The surface at the start of York Road heading North in Kings Cross should now be classed as off road it's that bad. Huge area right on the junction where all the cabbies and bus drivers try and squish the cyclists and jay walking predestrians.

Yup. Between whitworth hall (by the museum) and the precinct is horrendous, the actual road surface is nice and smooth. But it has huge gaping pot holes. I cycle down there very cautiously, because as you say, hit one and could be thrown under a bus. My run in involved a bus squeezing me into the gutter which I was avoiding due to the pot holes, hence forcing me to hit a real big one. Im surprised I didnt faceplant, was even more surprised my wheels survived.

+1 to that. Thought I'd give that a go after an entrance to the netherworld appeared to have been summoned on my route to work after a cold weekend. Two days later it appeared the council had been out and sprayed in white their own wards against evil around it (I guess chalk is out of date in modern witchcraft) and the following day it had been sealed. Job done!

I know the roads everywhere are bad at the moment but I still cannot get over (figuratively or literally) the section of road outside Havenstreet on the way to Newport where the road surface is entirely missing for a couple of hundred yards!
