I'm currently doing 3 miles each way and really missing my old 6 mile commute, however I've just had an interview confirmed with a prospective employer that's 10 (fairly hilly) miles away - fingers crossed for this one

= half a mile in North Wales.

Thanks Patrick, I like to look on the positive side like that

It shouldn't actually be that bad - on the way there it's about 3 miles downhill, then a mile or two flat then a couple of lumps and bumps but generally uphill (nothing killer) for the next 5 or 6 miles.

There's also the lazy day get-out clause of the Bristol-Bath cycle path which would make it nearer 12 miles but be great for just gentle pootling without the hills to think of. Boring though.

Well another bonus is that the cast on my ankle (which has condemned me to the buses for the last four weeks) is coming off a week early following some jigging around of appointments by the hospital - so I won't be on crutches for the interview!

Well I'm looking at it as a good way of building cycling into the everyday routine as part of training for a charity ride in 2010 I've found myself signed up for - it involves riding from "Clock to Rock" (Big Ben to Gibralter) in two weeks or less. That's an average of 120 miles a day through France, over the Pyrenees and through Spain.
