... blimey, hate to see Lewisham Councils bill in that case.. is there a worse borough for pot holes? If I was to report every bleedin' pothole on my commute through Lewisham my phone bill would be huuuuuuge!!

Does somebody want to post a successful letter that can be used as a template for others, would speed things up a little.

I've had to alter my training run as theres a section about 5 miles in that has some hideous potholes, only problem is, when sheffield council fix them, they seem to turn them into lethal humps!

Do it here on the CTC site - not only does it automatically get sent to the right council and right department, but now there's an independent record of the pothole being reported. Useful for other cyclists who get taken out by an unfixed pothole and want to claim damages.

Its ridiculous how quickly they develop aswell. There was a particularly nasty one on the Goldhawk Road (London) near the H&C tube station that was caused by some contractor digging up the road and filling it with what must have been soft tarmac or something. For about 3 months after, this patch of tarmac turned into a deep pothole and it was only very recently that it was sorted out. I've seen quite a few potholes around the place caused by rubbish road surface being put down after something has been dug up in the road.

I agree. Having made several attempts to report some very nasty potholes to Wokingham council, to no avail (the residents of Wokingham mostly travel by enormous BMW 4x4s...) I recently used fillthathole and they fixed them within a week.

Credit where credit’s due – have reported a couple of nasty potholes to our local council recently, and on both occasions they had workmen there fixing them within a couple of hours…

Just checked this website, only to find the area I live in is littered with flags already.

Only problem is I know most of the potholes well, and they've been there for at least 7 years, since i started driving!

Do people have any experience of pothole being fixed, especially those in the edge where you'd tend to be on a cycle?

Yes. North Yorkshire's roads surveyer has rung me up on a couple of occasions to find out exactly where a hole I've reported is, and gone on to explain what he's going to have done about it.

North Yorkshire's a big place. There's only one surveyor (and his driver) and he can't hope to know about all the holes all the time. He takes reports of holes as a favour: he can't get 'em fixed if he doesn't know about 'em.

And by coincidence, there was a crew out this morning preparing to fix some holes I'd mentioned.

Highways Agency aren't so responsive, though. They do fix things, but I've never actually had anyone reply to me.

The difference is that the CTC site gives external verification of a pothole report. That's useful to force fixes, because not all councils are as quick as your relatively small locality, and useful to cyclists who've crashed and want to claim, and can now prove that the council didn't fix things as quick as they should have.

I'm reporting them anyway, even though they have already being reported, hopefully they'll see it's a real problem.

Mikey, I would ride in te middle of the lane but i've only been on a road bike for a few weeks and only broke 40mph on flat for the first time yesterday, it's a 50mph road that used to be 60mph so that means cars travel 70-80mph. Maybe I just need to spin quicker ;)
