Rob at Bike Factory in Whaley Bridge really surprised me with his efforts. He has snagged me a set of Fulcrum Racing 5s at a near-online price, and is popping on some Gatorskins and a duplicate cassette. The shop doesn't even carry Fulcrum stock, but it was all no trouble for Rob and it sounded like he had spent some time on the phone for me.

Great shop. Pay a visit.

They are one shop I travel past fairly regularly which quite often have decent second hand bikes for sale on the front.

It's run by a former CX champion. There is a real interest in biking there. Plus they supply the British team with bits now and then (some of that crowd live here) - I understand that is how come they stock Xero wheels.

The web site gives no indication of the stock they actually carry though. So there is no mention of Wilier, which has obviously become a big thing for them. A lot of Scott, Marin, Dawes in the too. Decent workshop.

mm nice ( looking for some new wheels http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/wheelsets.102193/) and you have the same bike as me! nice to see how the fulcrum's look.

JD, if you are interested, I weighed both sets of wheels. To be scientifically clear, I weighed both the original Mavics together along with the Tiagra HG50 cassette and the All Condition tyres on and inflated to 120psi.

I then weighed the new Fulcrums that had been fitted with an identical cassette and folding Gatorskins, also inflated to 120.

The Mavics came in at 3260g. The Fulcrums were 2900g.

Oh. I see you are looking at Fulcrum 7s in your other thread. I specced those up and decided that they did not offer a big enough hike in weight loss and performance as the wheels that were already on the bike. Fulcrum 3s were mad money, so I went for the 5's, which are quite heavily discounted at the moment.

I took advice from Evans and from the LBS. Both rate the 5's highly and pointed to their presence on the full carbon Wiliers that both had in stock. Durability is good and Fulcrum understand that when they sell them as a training wheel (i.e. great for fitness and sportive riders, but not so hot in an actual pro race - but who are we kidding here?).

If you REALLY want a red wheel that is as durable as the Fulcrum 5 and does not cost the earth, check out the Xero Maravilloso. The LBS here stocks Xero because the British Cycling team, who train locally, are using them as a training wheel and need a handy supplier who can replace a wheel in a hurry. So also a great wheel for the likes of you and I. But they are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY RED!!!!! Like redder than a hooker's toenail viewed through rose-tinted specs as it tumbles in the red sand of Mars in the middle of sandstorm at sunset. THAT red.
