I have just been offerd a free brake and gear check up from the above at Halfords
is it worth taking it there,
do they just give it a looo over or do they suggest work need doing and then thats where the catch comes in
do they adjust any brake or gear that need doing

I dare say you could go in there with a brand new car and get that "face screwed up and ohhhhhhh needs a bit work doing" from some scabby half whitted mechanic. There was a thread on here a while ago about 1 of those Helfrauds Auto Center's trying to take the pee out of someone.
