Typical Daily Fail.........no link to the science. Without seeing the paper the Fail is referring to, no-one should panic. This was quite a small survey (5000 cyclists) and hasn't been confirmed by other studies.

Knowing how crap the Daily Mail are at anything, I found another study which says that there is an increased risk of a false diagnosis of prostate cancer amongst cyclists, because pressure in the region increases the output of PSA, which is what they check for in doing blood tests for prostate cancer. This increase is as a result of local pressure, and not of cancer.

Here is another study which says that cycling reduces your risk of prostate cancer, and this study was 9 times the size of the one the Daily Fail reports on, and lasted 10 years. I think it is fair to say that there is no consensus in this area, and much work is needed. In the meantime, keep cycling, but keep getting your prostate checked if you are over 50.

........Prostate cancer is the single biggest killer of males over the age of fifty.

No, it isn't.

Heart disease and strokes kill many times more. I hope you actually meant it is the biggest killer amongst the cancers of men over 50.

I could be remembering this incorrectly, but I seem to remember a study proving that cycling has no effect on Prostate Cancer, however cyclists were more aware of changes to their body, thus enabling earlier diagnosis.
