I will be out that way sometime this week. Does any one have a recommendation for lunch please.

Oh dear! No responses after 24 hrs. Previous similar enquiries re W Sussex and Bucks produced excellent recommendations. Doesn't anybody have a kind word about Essex?

Now I understand! The forest is not worthy of the name - wood befits its current status.. The roads around the Forest, particularly the Chingford, Waltham Abbey, Nazeing road are single lane mostly with double white lines on the undulating sections. I had more close passes in 2 hours than I would expect in a whole day in "home territory" ie Surrey, Sussex.

The George and Dragon, Epping High St, provided good food albeit rather slowly. The pub has undergone a major quality refit; the investor should now refurbish the staff.

VERDICT: worth a few hours if the Forest is conveniently located.
