Hi all

I currently have a nice Planet-X Kaffenback road/winter bike come cyclocross & tourer. It has eyelets and good clearances for thicker tyres and a strong chromo frame. It also has a 132mm rear so I can spring in 135mm MTB hubs as well as 130mm road hubs. It can also run discs discs or cantilever brakes.

I am planning on touring Iceland sometime in the next year or so and was looking for what sort of rims that would be good enough to hold up 15kg+ of rear luggage on rough loose stone roads. Alas I will be using this bike as a tarmac winter trainer and cyclocross so don't want the rims to be too heavy, nor too light.

So far I have discounted the Rigida Sputniks (too heavy) and Mavic 719 (too costly)

I think something in the 550 - 600g range would be perfect. Double walled, double eyelets w/box section, 36 holes and wide enough for 32c tyres. Must be silver.

I like the look of the Exal DC19 (disc) or the Exal LX17. DRC St19 also look decent but only seems available in black and 40 holes in the uk.

I have the Rigida Chrina rims on my fixie and they are strong db/walled but they are a PIG to get a tyre on/off so I don;t want them for the reasons of hassle it causes changing a puncture.

Any other under-the-radar rim manufacturers offering decent touring rims and good prices?

Mach1?
Velocity?.

My current (soon to be retired) touring rims are Rigida Snypers, but they don't seem to sell them in 700c any more

The Exal LX17s I've bought for replacement look pretty good replacements.

The new bike I bought from Hewitts came with the DRC rims mentioned above. Very solid wheel hand-built in the shop and would make an excellent touring wheel.
