You know those quick link thingies we all keep in our saddlebags as spares, alongside our chain tools?
Could you make a whole chain out of them? Not saying I'm planning to, just wondering if you could. Would it be weaker than a normal chain ?
 
No.

They replace the "outie" plates, you'd still need half a chain of the "innie" links.

As usual Sheldon provides the 'answer' option 3 uses SRAM powerlinks but no doubt KMC ones could be used.
