A: Kashmir Nahal, 36, forgot to look as his goods vehicle pulled out from a busy junction one November morning last year. He crushed 49-year-old father of four sons Glenn Syder who was riding [a bicycle] to work. [Syder] died at the scene. Nahal, who admitted careless driving and failing to give way in Havant, Hants, escaped a drive ban at Portsmouth magistrates.

B: Glenn Brown, 39, of Upper Derwent Valley, was filmed using a cage with a live pigeon to catch a sparrowhawk. Chesterfield Magistrate's Court heard Brown, of Old Henry's Schoolhouse in Upper Derwent Valley, trapped the birds to protect grouse where he worked.

I'd gather B got the £10K fine and 100 community service. The penalties for killing cyclists are shockingly poor.

I'd also guess B!

But as Mr Nahal is performing a vital service or driving "stuff" around the country to keep the economy going, the odd cyclist or pedestrian (or even a motorist or two) who is killed as a result is just a little unfortunate!

Yes I am being sarcastic. It's a shocking state of affairs.
I think Mr Syder's MP (maybe all MPs) should to written to!
Writing a letter sounds a bit pathetic when someone has lost their life, and four sons have lost a father.

The justice in this country can be a complete joke

To be fair though, isn't the Sparrow Hawk a protected species?

Well we have a new Duchess (and a hot one at that).. we should petition her, hahaha!!

Seriously though I know it was B that got the 10k fine as I read the case of A a little while back. I also read recently of a hit and run driver who was convicted after killing an old lad on a bike and scarpering, leaving him to die in the road (annoyingly I've lost the link, it was somehwre in the North I think???). I think he just got a suspended.

Too simplistic a question. Chalk and cheese cases and more info needed.
