If you've read a British bike mag over the last twenty years you've probably read his words. Very well respected in the mountain bike world and a thoroughly decent fellow. Died of a heart attack whilst out jogging in Ashton Court in Bristol on Friday.

I couldn't believe it when I heard. I think his were the first words I ever read on the subject of mtbing, back in the early '90s in MBUK. Despite never having done any more than nod to him if I saw him out on the trails, I somehow felt like I knew him. A great loss.

His name's been around ever since I came back to cycling in 1989. I always considered him one of the founders of mountain biking in the UK.

Bad news indeed.
