I was listening to the radio, and there was one of those public safety adverts.
It was warning drivers to look out for motorcycles when turning across bus lanes.

Good idea, but it made me realise that I don't think I've ever heard a similar one warning drivers to look out for cyclists.

They do not tend to make the same damage to the car. The cyclist tends to pad the bicycle quite well, resulting in usually minor damage. Motor cyclists - well they are different story; twisted wings, resprays etc. No, you can ignore the danger from cyclists - pretty small risk.

Have you ever ridden your pedal cycle into a fence at 15 mph? I have. I walked away with a twisted bike.
When a motorcyclist hits a car at 30 mph, he goes to hospital.

That's not to say motorists can pull out in front of cyclists. If they do however, the cyclist will probably be in a fit state to dish out a good punching.

My old man managed to gove soemone a good punching when he had a car/motorbike interaction at 50mph, unfortunately when he realised he had ripped his plums open on the speedo xx( as he went over the top of the bike he promptly passed out, so didn't cause the damage he hoped.

Trashed his Bonnyville he had spent the last year rebuilding as well

I dropped the loud bike yesterday morning. Only going 5-10mph and still ended up in hospital with stitches and a sprained ankle (I was lucky it wasn't broken, I was told).

on a push bike I'd have just put my foot down...and stopped.

That said, with the increase in cyclist activity and TFL (and the like) pushing for more and more, its about time a properly funded campaign was agreed to try and improve perception and safety

Not quite the same thing but I've spotted this council van now a couple of times recently - usually in the same area of town:
