Hello,

Hope everyone is keeping safe. I have recently bought a Raleigh pursuit and I am very happy with it. However I have noticed that the wheel rims have a bit of rust and overall look a bit dull.

Does anyone know what material the rims are made from and hence how to remove rust from them. I've also heard that metal polish can be used to make them shiny - is this something I should do.

Thank you for any replies

Started young, and still going.

You can use Autosol, which is widely available, and polish with a cloth and some very fine 000 wire wool.
Vinegar and rubbed with tinfoil may also work.
I take it that they are chrome rims and not alloy.

I’m guessing the rims are chrome so the above would work. They look pretty good for their age. Are the spokes tight and the rims true? You could tweak them with a spoke key if not. You might like to consider changing to a set alloy rim wheels which will give better wet weather braking If that’s important. You may have 27” wheels but 700c would be a direct replacement with some adjustment of the brakes.
