I bought a Lidl softshell at the last cycling gear event they did , however I took it back as I didn`t like it on and it didn`t feel right for me. I am looking to buy a decent quality softshell , pref with pit zips as I do tend to "run hot". So any recommendations out there ?

If you run hot then why not a jersey with some windproofing instead? I've been using a Santini Tough Jersey from Prendas these last few weeks and with just a baselayer it's been warn down to 5 degrees and too warm even at around 12 degrees. That for me means it's good for most winter days.

I picked up a trespass for £20 quid in trago last year, its a lot thinner than other softshells I've had before (non cycling) and sort of had a cyclists cut with a dropped bum but it didn't drop far enough or have long enough sleeves for drops. Good for budget on a more upright bike the fit might be fine.

Thanks for the idea but as I use my bikes for all my travel I am looking for something that I can put on on a cold miserable day with a base layer underneath and keep warm when i`m off of the bike. I have a Evo Night Vision for when it`s raining , but want something for cold, damp MTB rides across Dartmoor where I live. So I am on the softshell hunt. Cheers

Don't they do a windproof only version of the NV?

Castelli do a nice soft shell, I have one

They make a few ranging from like £40 to about £250+, lol. Care to be specific?

Castelli kit is lovely though if you can afford it! I have 1 item of castelli kit and it is amazing!

+1 Been using mine for years - with the sleeves zipped off it's useful in warmer weather.

Had mine since 2007 -still going, looking a bit worn but still up to the job- sadly the price has climbed up since I got mine but I'd love another one if I had the cash.

I think after looking online i`m going to go for the Madison Trail , Flux or ( if I can find one in my size) the Tempest.

I have the CX speedsuit (don't race CX, but wanted it for the warmth and longer sleeves), it is very nice, but no pockets, which is a bit annoying for training and general riding (I didn't pay attention when I bought it, which is silly as it is not an insignificant purchase, but I got over excited and didn't think it through) but the suit will be excellent for early season TT use. It is very warm, but has a nice breathable material in the arm pits and feels great, the shorts part are amazing, they feel so damn nice to wear and the fleecy inner surface of the top half is surprisingly warm for such a thin material. Longer sleeves mean no gaps between jersey and arm warmers so very nice seal.

I want the summer San Remo speedsuit and the Thermosuit, but they cost so much.
