Recommend a multi tool with chain splitter included.

For me. For Christmas. My multi tool is naff and doesn't have a chain splitter so a broken chain is the only breakdown that would have me shouldering the bike and thumbing a lift, assuming no friendly cyclist happened by.

I just used my Topeak Hexus 2 for that reason on the last ride, for some reason I seem to break chains a lot (Different bikes, different chains and cassette/crankset combos as well, I've just got Chris Hoy thighs is all I can think of..) Did the job very well. Broke two tools before that at home, a Birzmann multi and a cheapo just chain one, now have a proper f-off Park tool for home use.

I have a couple of Topeak Hexus II Multi-Tools that I keep in my saddle bags, they have chain splitters. I like them.

Hexus II here as well. Doesn't get used much at all as I do my workshop time at home but it has been used in anger just recently to rescue an elderly MAMIL with a snapped chain and it worked perfectly, has all the bits you are likely to need at the roadside

I have been using a Crank Bros multitool for over 15 years. The chain tool has been used to rescue several cyclists stranded with broken chains, and is used every time I put a new chain on any of my bikes.

Topeak here also. The chain breaker has saved me and my cycling buddies more than once. I also carry a quick link to repair the chain as far easier once the broken link is removed.

That's very similar to the one I have but mine has a rubber sleeve to slide over the body of it to stop the individual tools rattling.

It is worth checking exactly which allen keys you actually need for your bike before buying a fancy multi tool. It might be more sensible (and space and weight saving) to buy just those and a good separate chain tool like the Park Tool CT5, which is quite small anyway.
