In spite of being an avid internet/pc user I shied away from using my basic Nokia, and just stuck with texts and calls.

I have now gone for an HTC Desire on an unltd Three deal for £30 a mth and am blown away with how good it is.

So what apps do you recommend?

Ones I am excited about include

Evernote - very good indeed
Shop Savvy - not sure I will use it but it told me a TV in Tesco at £370 was £299 online siimply by scanning the barcode
RAC traffic

What other ones do you recommend? Travel related in particular

Bikehub

I haven't got one of these, but when we're standing around in Kent at three in the morning and somebody pulls out one of these fabulous machines, Google Sky is just soooooooo charming!

Im thinking about getting the Desire but not sure if I will find it too big? Have got a SonyEricsson W995 atm + the Desire seems like an Ipad in comparison!!
Its either that or an Iphone...............

The Desire is excellent, IMO, Lisa. It's wider than the W995 but I think it's a fair bit thinner. IMO, it'll slip into pockets and bags much easier.

As for apps, Angry Birds, Endomondo, Bike Hub and RAC Traffic are all good and already mentioned, flashlight and compass are, IIRC, part of Android 2.2 so will come with the phone anyway.

The obvious favourites from me would be WinAmp, Facebook and YouTube, BBC News, Yahoo Mail and Dictionary.com

Other favourites would be DailyStrip (comic strips!), GPS Status, TV Guide (I hate Sky, even if it is a free app) and a BIG mention for SoundHound, a great app which identifies songs from a few seconds listening or even singing into the phone.
