Recommend me a medium priced Armagnac

I spent Christmas Day with Keith Floyd....well actually, I didn't, but our neighbour does a very good impression. After probably the best (sorry Carlsberg) Christmas lunch for years, out comes the Port, Champagne and, (new to me) Armagnac. I now have the problem of reciprocating at New Years, so can anybody recommend a nice Armagnac that won't break the bank? I have to say, and sorry to those Cognac officianados, that Armagnac is extremely drinkable in a refined sort of way and noticeably nicer than it's mainstream rival.

Any suggestions?

Can't help you but here's a tip from my brother who used to manage the Officers' Mess bar when he was in the REME: you can improve a cheap port by tipping a teaspoon of brandy into the bottle; it makes it taste like an expensive port.

Armagnac isn't like Cognac in that there are no really big names, it is mainly made by small producers, Janneau is probably the best known. Best to try a few and decide which you like.

Thanks for all the good ideas fellas, Old Compton Street isn't too far from where I work so may well pop up there. Sorry to have launched this thread in the wrong section - doh!

Happy New Year too you all,

(Oh very good Mr Aperitif, you got me good and proper there - I didn't notice your tongue-in-cheek emoticon. Do you think I should save myself £500 and go for the 1898 Dupeyron instead? )
