Need an upgrade on my bicycle and have an upper limit of £400 so I'm looking at either the Campag Zonda or the Mavic Kysrium Elite. Anyone have any experience or suggestions as to alternatives you like or that I should steer (see what I did there?) clear of?
No personal experience of it, but I've heard a few people grumbling about Mavic's quality control of late - if you go with them, it may be worth buying fairly locally.
I hear excellent things about the Dura-Ace wheels, but I think they're £580ish.
Phil, Ribble have Kysriums at just over £300 right now - apparently their warehouse near Preston is stuffed with stock, which they are trying to shift, Mavic having refused to supply them any more wheels as they have buggered up the UK market by selling too cheap. The best way to buy from Ribble is order and collect; if you wanted to do that I'm sure I could divert my goods collection service (wife & son on their way home from skool) to collect your wheels in exchange for a nice bottle of red wine. We could meet you on the M65 Saturday morning to hand over as I have to go to Burnley.
I went to buy a pair and the guy at my lbs didnt recomend them lots of problems with them at the moment ,,so i bought ultegra not tried them yet though
Had Elites on my best bike for the last five years and had no problems with them at all. They've hardly been thrashed mind, only a few thousand miles in total. Can't comment on any recent quality issues though.
I had Zonda on a Look 241 - excellent. The Fulcrum 5, or 3, or 1s - depending on your budget feel very good too. I used the 3s in France, and my other bike has 5s. I didn't like the Ksyrium Elites and they went a bit 'pingy' - probably due to me being too heavy for them?
