Recommend me some Internet Security

I've been using McAfee for a number of years with no real issues, but the renewal cost seems high compared to something like Kaspersky Internet Security 2012.
So that's it, what would people recommend, (Kaspersky as mentioned, Norton, AVG etc), bear in mind I'm not a techie so don't baffle me with science. I just need a good dependable internet security suite for not much wonga.
Cheers

I used Kaspersky until I upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 which caused my computer to keep showing the blue screen of death. In the end I uninstalled it altogether and installed Microsoft Security Essentials which does pretty well all that Kaspersky does but doesn't slow the computer down and best of all is free. There is a fairly recent thread somewhere on here on the subject of AV software.

I've used Kaspersky for a number of years - not had a problem with 2012 version.
What I do know is, it was extremely effective at fending off hacker attack I got, when attempting to go online in a slightly dodgy hotel in China

I just use Microsoft Security. My router has a firewall built into it and I don't do anything stupid ("Please open me I'm fun" attachment anyone?) and haven't had a virus or malware in over 5 years.

For freebies I'd recommend Avast. I researched it a bit and found it to be very highly rated.

If you're paying, I'm still in the Kaspersky camp. Had no problems with it at home, and installed the centrally administered corporate version on all the office machines in my last job. There has been a version in the past that had an impact on machine performance, but I've not experienced anything bad with the 2011 and 2012 versions.
I've seen and heard too much to the negative about Norton, and experienced some of it's effects a few years ago - so as popular as it is on new boxes I'd stay clear of it.

The BBC Micro was so much better than this... <sigh>

Karpersky used to be quite good in the days I used to use it, I see no reason why it wouldn't still be the case.
Barclays bank used to give a free copy of Karspersky to their account holders..... they might still do.

If not then Avast is pretty good and it's free. That is what I used even when I was able to get a free copy of Karspersky.... I guess I was happy enough with Avast or to lazy to install Karspersky

I now have a dual Operating System on all my computers - Windows based and Linux (Ubuntu) - All Windows systems have Avast but I mostly use Ubuntu nowadays.

If you are happy with Macafee but cant stomach the renewal fee, don't renew. Just buy the same or newer version again for about half the cost. Sometimes you dont even need to uninstall/reinstall, just updat the licence key.
