Anyone had any particulaly impressive dealings with broadband suppliers?

Or conversely, anyone have any suppliers they would in future avoid like the plague?

Just thinking of switching suppliers. I can look up prices etc, just wondering about quality of help lines etc.

(And if anyone thinks there is a connection between this question and my other post on here... well... yes...)

Whoever you get recommended, make sure they have their OWN lines in your area, otherwise you'll just be piggybacking BTs lines and the service will be poor.

Go here and enter your post code:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

Then click on your exchange that will come up.

To the right of the page will be a column labelled 'LLU Operator Presence', and that'll tell you who has their own lines in your area. Tell us who you get with ticks on that list and I'll tell you how I feel about each of them that I've dealt with!

Also, you have a mobile contract? If so, who are you with, and would you be willing to switch to get a better deal on everything?

As a former BT Broadband customer now with Zen Internet, I advise you to avoid the former like the plague and highly recommend the latter.

I had a problem with my internet connection at one point and dealt with both companies (I moved suppliers to try and fix the problem) in the end it turned out to be a fault with the router, a fact Zen helped identify, and the difference between customer service was like night and day. In addition to being pretty reliable and having excellent customer service, they don't tie you to a 12-month contract so it's easy to change to another supplier if you wanted. The one negative is they aren't the cheapest.

Be UnLimited I think are a bit cheaper and are also are generally highly recommended. The main reason I didn't try them before opting for Zen was as Jezston has just posted, at the time they didn't have their own lines in my exchange.

The website thinkbroadband.com is pretty useful, have a look at their compare broadband ISPs tool, it shows ratings on speed, reliability and customer service.

PlusNet for me. Originally just broadband, now phone as well.

I moved in outrage after trying to find where BT had hidden their full tariff breakdown on their website. That isn't easy, because it has been deliberately tucked away to stop you comparing prices. [Yes, I know PlusNet are now owned by BT.

But it's still a much better service.]
