Hello guys and girls. I've only gone and got a work colleague into cycling to work on his 15 year old road bike (having done the same for the past 30+ years myself), and....of course......., he now loves it so much, he wants to buy an up to date road bike.

He has set himself a price tag of £700.

Anybody got any thoughts as to particularly good deals out there at this price point (presuming we will be loooking at aluminium frame / carbon forks)?

Ribble's winter/audax is gvfm and a t £700 you could spec quite decent components. It has guard and rack mounts, so can be very practical for commuting.

The decanthlon triban 5 is apparently very good and boardman have a entry level bike as well at around that price.

I think in vfm stakes the above two are the best
