I've seen them on a couple of bikes and they seem okay, my only comment is that they're quite low down.

I have a set of them that my brother gave me. I have not used them as they do not suit the road bike I use most of the time. For a touring bike or dedicated commuter though I think they would make a lot of sense. I don't think you can turn them off and they flash so they would be on all the time and they need to be fitted so would be a faff to remove regularly.

For town / city traffic they are alright for being seen but I would not try and use the front as my only source on a dark country lane
 
There have been problems with trains.

You are not allowed to use red lights on a station as they are the same as warning lights on the railway system. You cannot switch these off, and STaff have (quite rightly?) stopped cyclist from wheeling the bike on platforms for this reason.

So if you commute by train you either cannot use these or have to fine a method of covering the light when on the platforms
