I was going to post the very same thing. I had the form half filled in but in the end didn't go for it. Not to say I'd be accepted but back then 2.5 years away seemed a very long time so I didn't apply
Not getting a trade at 16
Not riding the south americas with by best friend
Meeting my ex.
Messing up my marriage.
Not leaving the church we were in during COVID.
It wouldn’t necessarily be better. Be happy in what you do / did. Too many deeply miserable buggers trying to climb the “career” ladder. Their hourly rate actually goes down as they are expected to work so many more hours with added pressure.
That's actually THE main reason I didn't accept. I didn't want to the the one senior management were ringing on a Sunday afternoon because X wasn't working. That and the suspicion you'd end up trying to manage it..and be expected to do a days maintenance work as well...which is exactly what happened to my good friend and colleague that did accept it...but it was a good career move for him, a younger guy. Me, much as I could handle systems and procedures...I don't do people.
