Yesterday I spotted one of our guys getting to work, with his new C2W bike on his shoulder. I popped out and opened the door for him. Turns out he had an 'incident' on the way to work.
He's at a junction. I'm not sure if its a 90 degree jusction or not. Not sure if he was stopped or approaching at speed and 'gave way'. But the basics are, there was an approaching car, with an elderly couple inside. There's an independant witness agrees with my workmate over the disputed issue of whether the driver was indicating to turn left. The driver denies it.
Cyclist emerges, car doesn't turn... Ouch!
Anyway, upshot is cyclist OK, wheelset no longer true, car needs a new wing mirror.
I was told plod attended - then I heard the acronym PCSO....
So we have a dispute over who's responsible, an independant witness and a PCSO who not surprisingly says 'nothing I can do'
Main reason for posting this is to reiterate the point - don't rely on indicators, they lie. They get left on. They could signify an intention to pull over just past a junction.

Especially when looking at motorbikes as there is no automatic turn off as in cars.

As I teach my children about crossing a road, look the motorist in the eye before you venture out across the road, use the Paddington bear technique. look the motorist in the eye so we all know whats going on, be sure they see you before you move.

Wait for the motorist to commit themselves to the turn. ie You see the front wheels turning in to the side road. I've waited for people to commit themselves, stationary on the centre of a junction turning right and some @rse comes up the inside and turns right around me cutting me off. You can't win, but you can be cautious and keep the rubber on the road and your feet on your peddling irons.
